>Hi Everyone:
As the nexus of randonneuring starts to converge on Davis I want to wish
everyone good weather, wonderful scenery, great companionship and lots of
(mostly) wonderful memories.
Looks like I will not be making it to the GRR this year. I am still nursing
some injuries I incurred in a wipe-out I had on July 4th while on vacation
with my family in WI. I hit some wet railroad tracks after a thunderstorm
and that was all she wrote. Lots of lingering road rash along with some
tender ribs and lower back stiffness. Oh, and the bike needs some repair
also. I made it through the Death Ride last weekend but the ribs and lower
back were a nuisance after a few hours. And I know from experience that
what feels "annoying" after 6-8 hours can be downright fatal after several
days. So, while there is still an outside chance I'll wake up feeling new
and improved on Monday and head to Davis, it's most likely I'll be nursing
my wounds and vicariously enjoying the GRR watching people check in and out
of controls on the web site.
Thanks to the SF Randonneurs Club (Todd Teachout) for a great 200K and
300K, to Daryn Dodge and the rest of the Davis Bike Club for a wonderful
(as always) 400K and to Donn King for the great 600K. Also many thanks to
all the wonderful fellow randonneurs who took mercy on me during the
Brevets to let me ride along side them and have some company as I plodded
along.
Eat before your hungry, drink before your thirsty, add layers before you're
cold and stop before the end of the road!
Enjoy.
