Sterling,

Just so you and others know, off list I suggested
doing the following (based on the assumption that
an overnight in SF was planned). Take the Ferry
from SF to Oakland, and walk or ride the 3 blocks
from the ferry landing to the Oakland Amtrak
station. The ferry ride on monday would be against commute
direction, would be more leasurely and quieter than
the BART would be, gets one to within 3 blocks of the Amtrak
station, and would work just fine in the event of an
ongoing BART strike. One thing I didn't mention is that
if there is a BART strike, the Ferry will be running
two direct boats, one to Alameda and one to Oakland,
and not the usual loop route that would stop at both
places. In short, be aware of the destination of your
east bay bound boat.
