Rob,
Yes, your scenario of a 70 hr 1000k finish would allow a 5 hr rest before continuing. Since the object is to get credit for a 200k ride by completing it in 13.5 hrs, this would put you at the finish no later than 88.5 hrs total. And since you finished under 90 hrs from the start of the event, just like the GRR 1200k randonneurs, you get a GRR finishers jersey. Actually, you may have 75.5 hrs before starting the 200k, since the Tobin control closes down at 21:34 (75.5 hrs after the start). I realize this requires you to finish the entire event in 89 hrs, rather than 90 hrs, due to differences in km/hr speeds of the 1200k (last half speed) and 200k brevets. This is done to try and keep the 1000k+200k option close to the same schedule as the 1200km brevet for closing times at later controls.
Because the 1200k and 1000k+200k option has different average km/hr speeds, it can be quite confusing. I'm sure there are situations that could arise at Tobin that we have not forseen. However, we are quite fortunate to have the Santa Rosa RBA, Donn King, running the Tobin control. He is quite familiar with the rules and will do all he can in assisting the 1000k+200k riders at his Control.
Thanks for your questions.

Daryn and Bill,
Thanks much for your answers. I do have one more question
that I wasn't sure of the answer. By asking this, I don't want
to signal that I'm planning on doing this (because I'm not)
but with a 75 hour limit on the 1000k, If I finished in 70
hours, would I technically be able to rest for 5 hours
before I started the 200k? What I really want to hear is
that unless I finish the 1000k in 75 hours flat, I have some
time to rest, should I need it, before starting the last
200k. I appreciate what you mean concerning not making the Tobin
control staff cool their heels while I dawdle.
I'm brand new to all of this, so naturally my questions come
from lack of experience.
