Long Distance Gang-
I've done a few long distance cycling events, including 1200K events. I
typically carry two water bottles, and on the last GRR sent two drop bags
ahead. Each fit in a mailing envelope. I ended up using very little
from the drop bags anyway.
Keep drinking, as dehydration involves a lengthy and debilitating
recovery period. Water will be available relatively easily. Bring a
credit card for emergencies (it's light, it works well in California, and
it can buy you what you need rather than what you planned on).
I carried a Camelbak at the last PBP. I never put any water in it. Oh
well.
Of course, YMMV.
